Sell Your Old Console Before GTA 6 Lands
Last-gen console prices peak before a big launch, not after. Why the window closes on 19 November, what your PS4 or Xbox One is worth today, and how to get the most for it.

If you own a PS4, an Xbox One, or a console you have stopped using, the most valuable thing you can do this month is sell it.
Not because it is worthless — because it is worth more right now than it will be in December, and most people get this exactly backwards.
Why prices peak before a launch, not after
The intuition is that a big release makes old consoles more valuable, because more people are shopping for consoles generally. That is half right, and the half that is wrong costs money.
Here is what actually happens around a launch this size:
Now, three months out. Buyers are researching. Some do not yet know GTA 6 skips last-gen hardware, so a PS4 still looks like a reasonable entry into gaming. Demand is broad and prices are firm.
November, launch week. Everyone finds out at once. The message that GTA 6 is PS5 and Series X|S only becomes impossible to miss, and demand for last-gen hardware falls off sharply.
December and January. Everyone who upgraded is now selling their old console, all in the same few weeks. Supply floods, and prices drop hardest exactly when you were planning to sell.
The window is now. It closes on 19 November.
What your old console is worth today
Live Harib prices give you a realistic picture of what last-gen is fetching:
| Console | Recent price |
|---|---|
| PS4 Pro 1TB, modified with games | Rs 90,000 |
| PS4 Fat 500GB, two controllers | Rs 56,000 |
| Xbox One S 500GB | Rs 55,000 |
| Xbox 360 S with Kinect | Rs 45,000 |
Put that against what you are buying. A used Xbox Series S is Rs 90,000 and a like-new PS5 Slim is Rs 175,000.
Sell a PS4 Pro at Rs 90,000 and the Series S costs you nothing. Sell an Xbox One S at Rs 55,000 and a PS5 Slim drops to an effective Rs 120,000. That is the difference between "I cannot afford a console this year" and "I am playing on launch night."
Sell the extras too
The console is the headline, but the accessories add up and people forget them entirely.
- Spare controllers — often Rs 8,000–15,000 each, and they sell fast because everyone needs a second one.
- Games. Pre-owned PS5 discs start around Rs 8,000 and last-gen titles still move. A shelf of twenty discs is real money.
- Headsets, racing wheels, VR kit. A Logitech G923 wheel is listed at Rs 80,000 — these hold value far better than people expect.
- The original box. Not sellable on its own, but a boxed console reliably fetches more than a bare one.
How to actually get a good price
Sell it working, and prove it. Photograph the console powered on with a game running — that single image removes the buyer's biggest fear and is worth more than any amount of description.
Be honest about condition. Say if the fan is loud, if a stick drifts, if it is jailbroken. Buyers in Pakistan expect to be misled and price that risk in. Being straightforward is genuinely how you get more, because you get serious buyers instead of hagglers who assume you are hiding something.
Include everything. Controller, cables, power lead, box. A complete unit is worth noticeably more than a console and one frayed HDMI cable.
Clean it. Ten minutes and a can of compressed air. A dusty console reads as neglected and gets offers to match.
Price against live listings, not against what you paid. Look at what comparable consoles are actually listed at today and price just under the cheapest similar one. What you paid in 2019 is not information the buyer cares about.
Disclose a jailbreak. It narrows your buyer pool but it does not kill the price — plenty of buyers specifically want a modified console with a loaded drive. Hiding it and being found out kills the sale entirely.
Before it leaves your house
- Deactivate the console as your primary in your account settings. If you skip this, your account stays tied to hardware you no longer own.
- Sign out of everything — store, subscriptions, saved payment methods.
- Back up your saves to cloud or a USB drive. There is no recovering them afterwards.
- Factory reset. Fully, not a quick wipe.
- Check inside the disc drive. A surprising number of consoles are sold with a game still in them.
The timing, plainly
| When | What happens to your price |
|---|---|
| August–September | Best window. Broad demand, normal supply |
| October | Still good. Buyers preparing for launch |
| Early November | Softening as awareness spreads |
| After 19 November | Falls. Everyone learns it is PS5 and Series X and S only |
| December–January | Worst. Upgraders flood the market at once |
If you are going to sell, sell now. If you are not sure whether you need to upgrade at all, check which consoles actually run GTA 6 first — and if you are upgrading, the launch checklist covers what else to sort before November.
List your console on Harib — it takes a few minutes, and our seller guide covers photos, pricing and safe meetups in more detail.
